Curriculum Standards
Foundation and Grade 1
Students will be engaged in a range of learning activities where they begin to explore the possibilities of technology. They are supported in developing an understanding of the impact technology has on their learning and everyday lives. Furthermore, they begin to learn and practice integral digital citizenship skills as they use collaborative tools as a part of the learning process. Students will create basic media as they investigate and problem-solve through the use of technology to display their learning in creative and engaging ways. There will be opportunities for students to engage in the creation of simple algorithms and sequencing, furthering their understanding of how digital devices work and operate. They will develop a new understanding of a range of digital software and hardware and how to create a balanced foundation of health and well-being when using technology.
CREATING AND REPRESENTING
display learning in creative ways through the use of digital software.
collect, identify and present data in a variety of forms.

INVESTIGATING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING
develop thinking routines to support digital literacy.
recognize and identify patterns, automation, and sequences within technology.

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION
utilize technology to communicate and collaborate with peers.
organize and communicate ideas and understanding

RESPONSIBILITY AND UNDERSTANDING
understand basic commands which allow technology to function for a purpose
engage in positive, safe and ethical digital literacy when using technology.

Grade 2 and Grade 3
Students will expand their understanding by utilizing technology to support their learning in a variety of ways. They will be challenged to develop their own thinking routines as they being to formulate digital solutions to real-life problems. They will build upon their knowledge and understanding of digital citizenship by developing a respectful, responsible and empathetic approach to digital rights and ethical practices when using digital devices. This will support their learning of new ways to communicate and collaborate on a range of digital tools to present multimodal presentations, animations, and data sets as they become more digitally literate in their use of technology.
CREATING AND REPRESENTING
collect, sort and represent a range of data in multimodal forms
create animations, models or visualizations for a specific audience

INVESTIGATING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING
utilize and develop thinking routines to create sequences and patterns
formulate, test and justify digital solutions to real-world problems

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION
collaborate and communicate with known people in online platforms
plan, synthesize and organize artifacts and information from multiple media sources.

RESPONSIBILITY AND UNDERSTANDING
independently and with others develop safe, reflective and ethical practices.
exhibit respect for rights of intellectual property for use, sharing or adapting

Grade 4 and Grade 5
Building on previous learning, students are required to think more critically about the possibilities technology provides them. They develop more complex sequencing and algorithms as they apply new skills to formulate and analyze more real-world based digital solutions. They create interactive media as they collaborate on a range of projects where they provide justification for reasoning and practice a range of protocols by advocating the safe, responsible and ethical use of technology. Throughout this time, students are applying new ICT skills into all areas of learning in a variety of ways to convey understanding and showcase learning. Finally, communication and collaboration play an integral part in student’s development of becoming positive agents of technology as they become competent, confident and empathetic digital citizens.
